Chengdu & Zhangjiajie

Saturday, 3 October

Day 1 – Arrival in Dujiangyan

We landed in Chengdu in the evening and drove straight to Dujiangyan. After dropping our bags at the hotel, we walked over to South Bridge to see the blue-lit river.

Sunday, 4 October

Day 2 – Pandas & Red Pandas

We spent the morning at the panda base, then moved on to Red Panda Forest Park, which also had raccoons and rabbits to feed. The red pandas were the highlight, especially when four of them lined up on the same rail. We drove back to Chengdu that evening.

Monday, 5 October

Day 3 – A Slow Day in Chengdu

A slower day in Chengdu: a long massage and some shopping, then Dongmen Wharf and Taikoo Li after dark, where we found a shop full of pandas built from bricks.

Tuesday, 6 October

Day 4 – Chengdu to Zhangjiajie

We flew to Zhangjiajie around midday and checked into a river-view homestay with my parents-in-law, then spent the evening at 72 Wonder Tower and Dayong Ancient City next door.

Wednesday, 7 October

Day 5 – Wulingyuan & Yuanjiajie

We entered at Wulingyuan and started on the valley floor along Ten-Mile Gallery, then took the Bailong Elevator up to Yuanjiajie and Tianzi Mountain. The weather stayed clear, so we could see the sandstone pillars all the way to the horizon.

Thursday, 8 October

Day 6 – Glass Bridge & Tianmen Mountain

We started at the Grand Canyon Glass Bridge, then headed back to town for the cable car up Tianmen Mountain. It was a long day, but we managed Tianmen Cave, the cliff paths and the glass skywalk before coming down.

Friday, 9 October

Day 7 – Home via Chengdu

An early flight took the four of us back to Chengdu for a Korean lunch, and we had the rest of the day to fill before the evening flight home to Singapore.
